USIS Washington File: TEXT: USAID'S ATWOOD BEFORE HOUSE INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS The Administration is requesting $35 million under the Economic Support Fund for the African Great Lakes Justice Initiative. The objective of the Great Lakes Justice Initiative is to contribute to efforts in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, and Burundi to bring an end to the culture of impunity. Recognizing that justice is one critical element, the initiative is designed to support an expanded effort to help the public and private sectors in those nations to develop justice systems that are impartial, credible, and effective, and to help promote inclusivity, coexistence, and security.
