US Department Of State Post Report Football (Soccer) is a passion, with sports teams in every locality. A variety of other athletic or sporting opportunities exist locally (basketball, martial arts, volley ball and the like). Praia has a well-used arena and an outdoor stadium completed in 2000-01. There is little otherwise in the way of organized sports. Praia has an inexpensive tennis club, with 3 hard surface (cement) tennis courts. Courts can be hard to get during peak hours and weekends, and there is a nominal fee of 200 CVE per/hour for a court. There is a grassless golf course just outside of Praia that consists mostly of rock, scrub and sand, and which is a challenging physical trek. There is also a partially grassed golf course on the Island of São Vicente. The Praia-Mar hotel also boasts a hard surface tennis court, newly renovated and re-opened in March 2004. Reports, International Education Week 2001 Participating in MUN was worth my time. As a young boy in Form 2, I was really immature and not bothered to interact with others in such a broad and debative activity. I was not up for the research and hard work a delegate in the Model United Nations was expected to do. I would rather spend my time doing sports and hanging out with friends. But after joining MUN, my perspective of the program slowly changed. ... [Read More]
