On October 30, 1998, I announced the eight African countries selected to participate in the initiative -- Angola, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Cote d'Ivoire, Kenya, Mali, Tanzania, and Zimbabwe. An interagency team composed of personnel from the Federal Aviation Administration and the Departments of State, Defense, Justice, and Treasury visited two countries this year to begin aviation systems/airport surveys.
