Canada is primarily a destination and transit country for women trafficked for the purposes of labor and sexual exploitation. Women and children are trafficked from Central and South America, Eastern Europe, and Asia for sexual exploitation. To a lesser extent, men, women, and children are trafficked for forced labor. There is internal trafficking of Canadians for the sex trade. The majority of foreign victims transiting Canada are bound for the United States. Numbers are hard to gauge, but in February 2004, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) estimated that 800 persons are trafficked into Canada annually and that an additional 1,500-2,200 persons are trafficked through Canada into the United States. Douala has one recommended private medical clinic—Polyclinic Bonanjo. It is acceptable for general health care, but specialized treatment must be sought outside the country. EBO has an emergency trauma kit. The regional medical officer located in Lagos makes periodic trips to all posts in the region. Since Douala is an airline hub for central Africa, the RMO can usually be contacted for consultation on layovers if arranged in advance. Air France, Cameroon Airlines, and Ethiopian Airlines offer regular airline service within Africa and Europe. Airline schedules are constantly changing. At this writing, Air France has three different flights to and from Paris weekly. Cameroon Airline offers several flights a week to Yaounde and Douala. Ethiopian Airlines offers service to Addis Ababa twice a week.
