As a result, a growing number of private universities have opened to meet the demand posed by increasing numbers of students at this level. There are 25 institutions of higher education in Cambodia today. Many universities have established new departments to meet current market needs, such as tourism, mass media/communication, information technology, international relations, and natural resource preservation/environmental studies.
