Report on Global Anti-Semitism

January 5, 2005 Executive Summary I.  Anti-SemitismAnti-Semitism has plagued the world for centuries. Taken to its most far-reaching and violent extreme, the Holocaust, anti-Semitism resulted in the deaths of millions of Jews and the suffering of countless others. Subtler, less vile forms of anti-Semitism have disrupted lives, decimated religious communities, created social and political cleavages, and complicated relations between countries as well as the work of international organizations. For an increasingly interdependent world, anti-Semitism is an intolerable burden. The increasing frequency and severity of anti-Semitic incidents since the start of the 21st century, particularly in Europe, has compelled the international com ... [Read More]

During 1999, traffickers continued to improve their communications (using "chat rooms" and other secure devices). There is increasing evidence that traffickers are processing cocaine hydrochloride (HCl) within Peru's borders, setting up laboratories near the borders with Brazil, Colombia, and/or Bolivia, so that they can leave the country quickly without risk of interception. While there were no confiscation's or forcedowns of trafficker aircraft by the Peruvian Air Force (FAP) airbridge denial program in 1999, traffickers crashed two airplanes that had to be abandoned. These new patterns have had the effect of increasing coca leaf prices in coca cultivation areas to levels well beyond the break-even price point. ... [Read More]

It also started a register for tracking drug offenses in the prison population. Uruguay’s demand reduction efforts focus on developing prevention programs, rehabilitation and treatment. They are based on a strategy developed cooperatively in 2001 between the National Drug Secretariat, public education authorities, and the Ministries of Interior and Public Health, and include INJU (The National Institute of Youth), the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs, INAME (The National Institute of Minors), municipalities and NGOs.
