Mar del Plata, about 250 miles southeast of Buenos Aires, is the principal seaside resort in Argentina and is 30 minutes by plane or 4 hours by car. An important city and seaport, it has magnificent residences, parks, wide beaches, hotels, restaurants, shops of all kinds, and a huge, luxurious casino. A smaller casino is attached to the famous Hotel Provincial, one of the city’s best. Mar del Plata is one of Argentina’s most popular vacation spots, and the atmosphere is similar to that of Atlantic City. Several smaller seaside resorts near Mar del Plata include Pinamar, more expensive and exclusive, with more private homes than hotels; and Miramar, called the “City of Children,” which attracts many American visitors.
