Belize On February 12, police constable Burton Caliz shot and killed Leroy Pilgrim at the waterside in San Pedro. After stopping and searching Pilgrim, two officers took him to the water to search his boat. Caliz claimed that a struggle over an illegal firearm led to the fatal shooting, but subsequent police investigations found no evidence to support that scenario.
