Skiing and ice skating are popular winter sports. The nearest ski slopes can be reached in a day’s outing. Small hotels can accommodate overnight trips, but reservations must be made well in advance. Ski lift tickets in the Czech Republic are generally much less expensive than U.S. prices. U.S. Army recreation facilities in Garmisch-Partenkirchen in southern Bavaria and other resorts in Austria and Germany also provide both summer and winter sports on a space-available basis for U.S. government employees assigned outside Germany. Skis, boots, clothing, and other equipment can be obtained both locally and from outside sources. Several ski shops in Prague sell previously owned equipment. New equipment is much less expensive in the Czech Republic than in the United States. Indoor ice skating rinks are open to the public in Prague. Further, some Members have insisted that the limited exception be available to all countries regardless of their manufacturing capacities or financial resources. This element of the Doha Declaration was intended to focus international action on the grave public health crises afflicting the poor and to assist countries lacking capacity and resources to obtain access to needed medicines for infectious epidemics. Most social occasions are informal or casual. Casual events call for sport shirts or the guayabera. Reasonably priced short-sleeved guayaberas can be purchased locally. Long-sleeved guayaberas (difficult to purchase locally) may be worn in place of a suit on some occasions. Bring a selection of slacks to be worn with shirts to evening engagements. Formal wear is not used, although the Ambassador may wear formal attire to the President's annual dinner for the diplomatic corps. Grenadian women are fashion conscious and like to dress up for cocktails and dinner parties. A great deal of home entertaining is done, and since it is a small society, you meet the same people at many different functions. Bring a large selection of short cotton cocktail dresses and evening pajamas, as well as a few more formal short gowns. Avoid silk dresses, unless washable, or any other clothes that need to be dry-cleaned, since St. George’s one drycleaner does only a rudimentary form of dry-cleaning and steam laundry. Bring several pairs of sandals, both dressy for evening wear and casual for daywear. Espadrilles and huarache type shoes are ideal. Roads in Grenada are rough, so if you are a walker, bring a few pairs of sturdy, well-constructed athletic shoes with a good supply of cotton socks.
