Introduction Reports from North Korea continue to paint a bleak picture of one of the world’s most inhumane regimes. Rigid controls over information, which limit the extent of our report, reflect the totalitarian repression of North Korean society. Basic freedoms are unheard of, and the regime committed widespread abuses of human rights. This year’s report details – among other abuses – killings, persecution of forcibly repatriated North Koreans, and harsh conditions in the extensive prison camp system including torture, forced abortions and infanticide. ... M) Money Laundering and Financial Crimes That Act also established "Know Your Customer" (KYC) requirements for financial institutions and obliged them to verify by December 31, 2001 the identities of all their existing account holders and of customers without an account making transactions over $10,000. In mid-December 2001, the chief legal advisor to the Bahamas Financial Services Board estimated that The Bahamas had completed between 80 to 95 percent of the KYC requirement for old accounts. Immigration officials are strict about getting exact information about where visitors are staying, and will often request to see a return ticket. There is a departure tax payable when departing the country. U.S. citizens entering with documents other than U.S. passports should take special care in securing those documents while traveling. Travelers will not be allowed to return to the United States without sufficient evidence of identification and U.S. citizenship, and it can be time-consuming and difficult to acquire new proof of citizenship to facilitate return travel.
