Events and Activites, International Education Week 2001

The Office of International Programs will sponsor a number of activities during the week. There will be discussion panels and lectures on overseas faculty experiences and how these relate to classroom instruction, internationalizing curricula, students' overseas experiences, visa issues. There will also be an exhibit of photography from a study abroad tour and various displays with international themes. The university's Residence Life Department will hold Residence Hall Olympics to promote international and cultural awareness, and serve as an incentive for students to experience various cultures and countries. Freedom Fields’ first major fundraising event, hosted by Dina and Clint Eastwood during the winter of last year, brought people from around the United States to the Tehema Golf Club, in Carmel, California, to support landmine removal in Cambodia. Baku has many, good quality restaurant that offer a wide variety of foods. Azeri cuisine is most similar to Turkish, with Russian and central Asian influence. Azeri restaurants and cafés range from simple teahouses to caravansarays. On the international side, excellent Europeans, American, Chinese, Japanese, French, Italian, Indian, Lebanese, Russian, and Turkish restaurants are all found in Baku. A McDonalds has opened recently and plans are underway for an additional franchise. A Baskin Robbins store opened recently.
