More serious allegations were lodged of voter rolls being inflated by illegally registered "phantom" voters, who reportedly included voters from other districts brought in to vote in tightly contested districts, non-registered voters using fictitious names or the names of dead voters still listed on the voter rolls, and non-citizens illegally registered to vote. The opposition claimed that 70,000 phantom voters in Terengganu were used to swing the vote in favor of the ruling coalition. Opposition parties also complained about their inability to monitor postal votes (absentee ballots) cast by police and military personnel. Events and Activites, International Education Week 2001

In celebration of IEW, Mozambique is holding a nation-wide contest for students and teachers of English with the following question as the theme: "How can knowledge about other languages and cultures promote mutual respect and tolerance?" Students are encouraged to submit an essay or drawing in response to the question; teachers are asked to submit a teaching activity. The contest is being promoted through each of the ten Provincial Resource Centers. In addition, each Resource Center can compete by completing a giant crossword puzzle made exclusively for the contest with the theme "Education in the US and Mozambique." Former Mozambican (and American) Fulbright and Humphrey recipients have also contributed essays for display at the Resource Centers about their exchange experience. English language programs share time with broadcasts in Malaysian, Chinese, and Tamil on both radio and TV in Malaysia. Voice of America and BBC can be received via short-wave radio, as can Radio Singapore and Radio Australia. There are four TV channels; two government  and two privately owned. In addition to local productions, Tamil movies, and Chinese movies and soap operas, the stations show a variety of American, British and Australian programs. Two private satellite services are Mega TV, with five channels, and ASTRO, with 30 channels. These can provide CNN, HBO, ESPN, the Discovery Channel, the Disney Channel, and Cartoon Network. For these services in a private residence, a dish must be purchased and mounted at the house and a receiver box with card installed (about $200), and a monthly subscriber fee is charged. The International Programs Office is sponsoring a Study Abroad Photo Contest The winners of the photo contest will be announced during the week, and over 75 pictures taken by Trinity students around the world last semester will be displayed at the Chapman Center. Stop by and marvel at the sights captured by Trinity students. Meanwhile, the university's International Club will visit a local home for abused and neglected children to share international games and skits centered around the book "Flat Stanley." The Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) carries out awareness activities in schools. Counternarcotics material is available in all schools, and MOET sponsors workshops and campaigns at all school levels.
