Sports clubs and health clubs in Caracas are numerous, excellent, fully equipped and provide a wide range of facilities. There is a very good gym close to the Embassy that has an outdoor track, many aerobic and other classes (tae bo, baile, stretching), and an Olympic-sized pool where swimming classes are offered for children. Most sports clubs are also very expensive. A list of clubs is available upon request and is included in the Welcome Kit. There are no public golf courses in Venezuela, and golf is therefore a very expensive activity. There are no public tennis courts, but at least one semi-public court exists, and there are many tennis clubs in the area.   ... [Read More]

There are numerous golf courses in the Czech Republic. Golf Club Praha has a small, but challenging, 9-hole course in the Motol area of Prague. There are excellent golf facilities near the town of Karlstejn, about 30 minutes from Prague and Konopiste, about 45 minutes from Prague. Farther afield, there are first-class 18-hole courses at Marianske Lazne and Karlovy Vary, both of which are about two hours from Prague. In order to golf in the Czech Republic, you will need a handicap card (called a ‘'green card’). Those not having a green card already can usually obtain one by being checked out by a pro at the club, or by becoming a club member. ... [Read More]

Four private clubs have swimming pools and tennis courts and Embassy families regularly join as members.  Tennis lessons are also available.  In addition, a private golf club with an 18-hole golf course (2 x 9 holes, with 2 tee boxes on each hole, with 12 greens) is located in south Paramaribo.  The course is low and flat and subject to flooding during the rainy season.  The course is not too challenging, offering enjoyment for advanced golfers and duffers alike. For both golf and tennis, be sure to include all equipment needed (especially tennis and golf balls, tennis rackets and golf clubs) in your household effects shipment. Some sports equipment items are available locally but are expensive. Embassy members actively participate in private club life and are welcome to join sports teams organized by the clubs.  ... For golfers, the closest course is The Hague Country Club in Wassenaar, where a courtesy membership is available to Ambassadors. Private courses are expensive in the Netherlands, although open to all golfers with official handicaps. At least two public courses, with reasonable greens fees are within an hour's drive of The Hague. Golfers should bring equipment to the Netherlands with them, since golf equipment is expensive. ...

Sports facilities in Amsterdam for popular U.S. sports are limited. Amsterdam has no public tennis or golf facilities; all are operated commercially or by private clubs. Individual membership in a tennis club confers the right to play daily during the April to October season. Often a long waiting list exists to become a member. For a few hundred dollars a year, you can rent indoor courts from October to April for a designated hour each week. Group instruction and special rates are available for children. ... [Read More]

The Curaçao Golf and Squash Club has the island's only golf course. It has nine holes with oiled sand greens. The club sponsors weekend tournaments and has a small clubhouse where refreshments are served. A squash court is located near clubhouse. ...

The Consulate General in Curacao handles relations with two self-governing components of the Kingdom of the Netherlands: the Netherlands Antilles and Aruba. One of the most economically developed islands in the Caribbean, Curacao has a hot, dry climate. Outdoor sports such as sailing, diving, tennis, and golf are readily available, but cultural opportunities are limited. English is widely spoken, at least to some degree, and communications with the United States are good.   ... [Read More]
