Combining physics and linguistics inspired a young Kazakh physicist, Artem Yermilov, to apply for a Junior Faculty Development Program (JFDP) fellowship in 1999. "Participation in the program was the realization of my dreams," he explains, but "those were not dreams to travel or to visit America. [They] were dreams to work and fulfill professional plans." Based at the University of Georgia in Athens, Artem became enthusiastic about everything new, from physics and computer science to the diverse aspects of American culture. Ambassador Richard Miles delivered a keynote address at the graduation ceremony of the U.S.-funded Georgia Institute of Public Affairs. The U.S.-funded institution, the Caucasus School of Business, held their third annual Career Fair. The school invited students and graduates from all Georgian educational institutions to participate. The Public Affairs Section held a week-long workshop for 36 Georgian government and NGO spokespersons.
