Problems Aerial Spray OperationsA GOC decree in early CY-2002 limited USG aerial spray operations to a concentration of eight liters of Glyphosate per hectare in eradicating coca. Due to the decreased efficiency of this dose, NAS lobbied for a return to the concentration of 10.4 liters of Glyphosate per hectare that the spray program used successfully and safely for years. The new Uribe administration provided a temporary fix in August by issuing permission for the use of the 10.4 liters concentration in the key departments of Caqueta and Putumayo. The Bishop's Conference of the Roman Catholic Church reported that illegal armed groups killed 11 Catholic priests during the year. The FARC is suspected of most of these killings. On January 12, Guillermo Leon Corrales, a Roman Catholic priest resident overseas who was visiting family, was killed in the town of La Estrella, near Medellin, Antioquia department. Several years earlier, Corrales had been threatened by members of a radical leftist student organization at the Medellin high school where he taught.
