World Scene: Reaching out to the World
I flew from Indonesia to Malaysia in 2 hours. Then, I had to wait about 2 hours until my next flight to Germany. From Malaysia to Germany took 16 hours. Then, I had to wait about 4 or 5 hours for my next flight to Washington, DC. From Germany to Washington, DC, took 7 hours. When I saw the map, I couldn't believe it, I flew all the way to America. ... The State Department... Is helping people in Afghanistan and Iraq to be free and elect their own leaders. Helps countries fight diseases like HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis. Organizes student exchanges to help people learn about each other to create respect and understanding. Assists countries such as Croatia, Armenia and Vietnam clear minefields so that farmers can plant crops and children can safely play. Provides emergency assistance to victims of natural disasters, such as the 2004 tsunami in South Asia and the 2004 hurricanes in the Caribbean.
