Italy is a member of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF). A member of the European Union, Italy is a party to the 1988 UN Drug Convention and the Council of Europe Convention on Laundering, Search, Seizure, and Confiscation of the Proceeds from Crime. Italy has signed, but not yet ratified, the UN Convention against Transnational Organized Crime, which is not yet in force internationally. Italian cooperation with the United States on money laundering investigations is exemplary. Italy and the United States have a Customs Assistance Agreement and a Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty and an extradition treaty in place, which ensure the sharing of records relevant to narcotics-trafficking, money laundering, terrorism, and terrorist financing investigations.
