Membership in Free Trade Agreements: In July 1995,Vietnam became a member of Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) andsubsequently, a member of ASEAN Free Trade Area (AFTA). As part of AFTA, ASEAN members (includingBrunei, Philippines, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand,and Cambodia) are committed to making this region a competitive tradingarea.
