Sherard was born in Wheatland, Wyo., and graduated from Wheatland High School. He graduated from the University of Wyoming with a B.S. degree in zoology in 1973 before going on to earn an M.D. degree from Creighton University in Omaha, Neb., in 1979, and an M.P.H. degree from Emory University in Atlanta, Ga., in 2003. ... Sherard is an active member of the Cheyenne and Wheatland communities. He is an adjunct clinical faculty member of WWAMI, College of Health Sciences at the University of Wyoming.
