Unexpectedly proponents of Kelly garnered considerablesupport throughout the valley. Editorials in the Jackson's HoleCourier reveal a split in the community, characterized by asurprising level of acrimony. The editor of the Courier wascaught in the middle as a booster of both valley and town. As the Juneelection approached, rhetoric heated up in editorials and letters to theeditor. Introducing more controversy a small but influential minorityopposed the creation of Teton County. In May voters approved a countyroad bond by a vote of 326 to 26. However, 16 of the negative votes camefrom the Kelly district. He connected the first lines between the JacksonHotel and Mose Giltner's ranch, three miles west of Jackson.
