WYOMING VETERANS’ AFFAIRS COMMISSION
Sheridan VA Center (1898 Fort Road, Sheridan 82801) is292-bed non-affiliated neuropsychiatric facility providing high quality primaryand secondary medical and psychiatric care. Its general telephone number is (307) 672-3473. Included in the bed complement are 7 acutemedical, 1 intensive care/coronary care unit, 50 nursing home care, and 8acute, 10 sub-acute and 30 long-term psychiatric beds, along with an 57 bedsmost of which are for substance abuse cases. In FY 1998, the Sheridan VAMC provided hospital in-patient treatment to5,889 veterans, and it provided out patient care to 46,191 veterans, a figurethat does not include the outpatient clinics. The clinics were just opened in 1998 and therefore do not have enoughexperience for reporting a full fiscal year. U.S. Senator Mike Enzi observed Memorial Day at Anzio Cemetery in Italy. He and his wife Diana laid a rose on the grave of a Sheridan Wyoming soldier who was killed on January 23, 1944 while liberating Italy. Primarily during a few months, dozens of soldiers and sailors from Wyoming gave their lives in Italy toward ending World War II. They are buried or are remembered at the Anzio Cemetery. Sheridan County in north central Wyoming is the home of Sheridan, a town of 15,804 (2000 census). The town sits near the Bighorn Mountains which makes tourism a major industry in the area. There are several dude ranches and recreation opportunities in and around Sheridan. The town is also home to Sheridan College, one of many two-year institutions in the state.
