Structures such as the facet joint have been clearly shown in clinical and experimental biomechanical studies to be involved in chronic pain, and the kinematics of this joint are such that it undergoes characteristic motions during the early stages of rear impact acceleration. The presence of the transient non-physiologic reverse curve, i.e., upper head-neck flexion is attributed to the headaches, and the concomitant existence of the lower cervical spine extension during the early stages of rear impact acceleration are attributed to the mechanism of neck pain in whiplash. The principal components involved in defining the mechanisms of injury must include the identification of tissues sustaining the stresses/strains that result in damage, determination of local mechanical variables associated with the damage, documentation of the temporal sequence of the events, and establishment of injury criteria. T35 Training Grant - Medical College of Wisconsin - DERT Training
The training program is a cooperative endeavor between the faculty of the Medical College of Wisconsin and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, with the research training to be conducted in the laboratories of faculty engaged in environmental health sciences research at these two institutions and at the Marine and Freshwater Biomedical Research Center located in Milwaukee. The 10 week summer research training program consists of participation in a research project in an area of environmental science; attending a specially designed course on “Topics in Environmental Health Sciences” one half day per week at the Marine and Freshwater Biomedical Research Center and attending discussions which explore specific environmental issues in depth in a case-study format; and receiving instruction in the principles of laboratory safety and scientific integrity. Personal and location identifiers and highly sensitive medical information have been removed from the public files to protect patient confidentiality. HEAB Student Financial Aid Programs
This agreement, which was established in 1967, is between a two-year UW System campus, UW College - Marinette, and two community colleges in Michigan, Gogebic Community College in Iron Mountain and Bay de Noc Community College in Escanaba. This agreement applies only to those individuals located in Menominee County in Michigan, and in Marinette and Iron Counties in Wisconsin. Under the agreement, a resident of Menominee County, Michigan may enroll at UW College - Marinette and pay Wisconsin resident tuition. Similarly, residents of Iron County and Marinette County may enroll at Gogebic Community College and Bay de Noc Community College, respectively, and pay the Michigan resident tuition rate. For admissions purposes, students are treated as residents of the state in which they are enrolled.
