The Hmong are avid anglers in local and regional waters. Coming recently from a rural, undeveloped country, they have no immediate understanding of pollution and contamination of the abundant waterways and fish in Wisconsin. With the recent recommended lowering of the permissible level of exposure to methyl mercury by the National Academy of Science, it is increasingly important to find effective means to communicate risks and benefits of fish consumption to his population. The goal of this program has been to inform the Milwaukee Hmong community about the hazards of eating fish contaminated with methylmercury and PCBs in a culturally sensitive way that results in active consideration of this issue within the context of the fishing practices of the Hmong people. The creation of a scientifically sound, culturally rich videotape that addresses this problem is the centerpiece of an outreach campaign to inform inner city Hmong residents about the benefits and risks of eating fish. A school official with an appropriate need to know who wishes to access a student's record must first login to eSIS using his or her own unique account ID and password. Once properly authenticated to the system, the school official may access a student's record by entering the student's account ID number, if known, or the student's name. Dr. Smith indicated that a school official might know a student's eSIS account ID number if the student had provided it or if the number was listed on an internal document. Dr. Smith explained further that the University uses the system's access control features to allow school officials to access a student's records only to an extent consistent with their professional role and responsibilities. For example, a staff person in the Housing Office would only get to see information pertinent to housing matters, whereas someone in the Registrar's office would most likely be allowed to see a greater range of information. ... Yet, we have recently seen how muchdifference, for good or ill, the choices of individual men and womencan make. In Iraq, the cruelty of a few has brought discredit to theiruniform and embarrassment to our country. The consequences of theirfailures of character reach well beyond the walls of a prison. Yet,those failures cannot diminish the honor and achievement of more than200,000 military personnel who have served in Iraq since the beginningof Operation Iraqi Freedom. (Applause.)
