In 2003, Madigan created the Illinois Sex Offender Registry Team (I-SORT) to improve the state’s sex offender registry and educate the public about the need to check the database. Madigan said those efforts are paying off. According to the Illinois State Police (ISP), the Sex Offender Web site had a total of 116,865 visits in January 2005, the highest total of hits ever and more than 54,000 more visits than in January 2004. Madigan also has drafted, introduced and worked to pass new laws that improve elements of the registry, require evaluation and treatment of sex offenders released from prison and for the first time, create specific parole conditions for sex offenders. ...
