The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources fisheries management programs are designed to provide a variety of fishing opportunities and experiences for anglers. The DNR endeavors to develop opportunities that range from native brook trout creeks to musky streams and large river catfish, and from small impoundment bluegill to reservoir bass and walleye. These programs consist of efforts focused on coldwater and warmwater species management and their habitats. Research, stocking, public access development, regulations, and outreach combined with habitat protection, improvement, and restoration form the foundation of the state's management of the state's fishery resources. ... West Virginia DNR - West Virginia Wildlife Management Areas
(470 acres) Marshall County. The area is located in northeastern MarshallCounty along the Pennsylvania state line, and it can be accessed by WestVirginia County Route 15. The wildlifemanagement area is primarily forested with a 49-acre lake serving as theprimary attraction for the area. Dunkard Fork Lake, which is located primarilyin West Virginia with a small upstream portion in Pennsylvania, providesexcellent warmwater fishing opportunities for channel catfish, bluegill andblack bass (catch and release). The lake is also stocked with trout fromJanuary through May of each year. Consult your West Virginia Regulations forspecial fishing regulations. The lake has a boat ramp and fishing pierconstructed along the primary access road. The WV DNR Wildlife Resources Section, in Cooperation with the SECooperative Wildlife Disease Study at the University of Georgia, College ofVeterinary Medicine, has tested free- ranging deer from WV for CWD every yearbeginning in 2000. However, to detect adisease that is present in only a few animals, a large number of samples need to be tested to be absolutelysure CWD is not present in free-ranging deer in WV.
