Friday’s semifinals matched Syracuse against Connecticut and West Virginia against a hot Villanova team. In the day’s opening game, West Virginia outlasted Villanova by a score of 78-76. Kevin Pittsnogle led West Virginia with 18 points while Mike Gansey made two free throws with two-tenths of a second left to seal the Mountaineers victory.
