The Commission has authorized the staff to dismiss defendants David Sharp and Drsharp, Inc. from an action currently pending against those defendants and Conversion Marketing, Inc. and Adam MacDonald dba Fast White . The Commission’s complaint in this matter alleged that Conversion Marketing and MacDonald falsely promised consumers a “free” sample of Fast White, a tooth-whitening kit. Instead, consumers who contacted these defendants allegedly were enrolled in a continuity plan without their consent, in violation of the FTC Act and the Telemarketing Sales Rule. Water fluoridation, Department of State Health Services-Dental Health
The only scientifically established effect of water fluoridation, along with its reduction in caries, is that 8% to 15% of children whose teeth develop with fluoridation show varying degrees of tooth whitening known asdental fluorosis. This whitening is graded as very mild and mild by Dean's Index of dental fluorosis. More severe forms of fluorosis, such as brown staining and hypoplasia (tooth surface defects), are not associatedwith optimal fluoride levels in water. There is evidence that fluorosis has risen in recent decades in prevalence but not in severity.
