The Maine Department of Education, in partnership with the Maine Department of Human Services, the Maine Nutrition Network, and the Maine School Food Service Association, will implement several initiatives regarding the role school environment and related policies play in implementing the Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2000 . The 2001 grant will be used to: 1) conduct two statewide Summits titled, Changing the Scene: Improving the School Nutrition Environment for up to 50 school district teams, consisting of school decision makers, staff, and community members; 2) provide follow-up and technical support to participants of the Summit trainings at regional meetings; 3) broaden exposure throughout the state to the Changing the Scene: Improving the School Nutrition Environment materials and concepts to meetings of administrators, teachers, parents, and the community; and 4) provide training and technical assistance for school foodservice professionals, in cooperation with the Maine ...
