Welcome to the Vermont Department of Labor's website. The Department was created on July 1, 2005 through an Executive Order(#01-05) by Governor Douglas, which merges the Departments of Labor and Industry and Employment and Training. As stated by Governor Douglas, the new department "will improve and enhance services to the public by combining under one department: employment security, employment-related services, labor market information, safety and training for Vermont workers and employers, workers compensation, and wage and hour". The Council consists of nine voting members, and a tenth member who is the State Director of Apprenticeship Division, who acts as Secretary of the Council, without voting privileges. Vermont establishes the makeup and role of the Council. Three ex-officio members are the Commissioner of DOL, the Commissioner of Labor, and the Director of Career and Lifelong Learning within the Department of Education. ...
