Originally, though, Maypole dancing was a plain circle dance without ribbons. These clips filmed at Barrand's own wedding in Vermont in 1975 show a Maypole being raised, and as in older times, it served as a centerpiece for the dancing that took place around it. Under church direction both buildings were restored—the Beehive House in 1960 and the Lion House in 1968. The Beehive House is now a historic site open for public tours, while the Lion House remains a social center for wedding receptions, group meetings, and birthday parties.
