Savoy Mountain State Forest Savoy Mountain State Forest is located atop the Hoosac Mountain Range in northwestern Massachusetts. The Hoosac Range is an extension of the Green Mountains of Vermont, and is the first mountain barrier encountered west of the Connecticut River Valley. "Hoosac" is an Algonquin word meaning, "place of stones". The mid-1800's brought construction of the Hoosac Tunnel for railroad transportation and a population boom for the towns of Florida and Savoy. When the tunnel was completed, the railway workers left, and many of the town's young people left the area to work in the woolen mills in the larger towns of Adams and North Adams, or to join the land rush to the west. During the 1930s the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) reforested abandoned farmland with Norway and Blue Spruce, and built new concrete dams at Bog, Burnett and Tannery Pond to replace older dams. Recreation.gov At the upper end of the reservoir, the Ottauquechee River flows through the sheer-faced 165-ft deep Quechee Gorge, one of the outstanding natural spectacles in the state. An overlook area and a state-managed campground as well as a new Visitor Center being built in the summer of 2004 are nearby. At North Hartland Lake, there is boating on the 215-acre lake, picnicking in a wooded picnic area, and a small beach offering swimming. Board Meeting Minutes - NH Electrician Board Inspector Benard reported on problems getting in touch with people who have filed investigation requests. He suggested that we add a contact or work phone, cell phone, pager number, e-mail, and a time of day to call. He also mentioned sending a second violation notice to Grace Electric, Inc (Gabriel Aho) within 6 months. A motion was made by William Yates to bring Mr. Aho in for a hearing at the next meeting. The motion was seconded by Joan DeLorie and passed. Inspector Benard is meeting with John Raymond and Bill Degnan from the Fire Marshal's Office and the people at Temple Mountain on Friday. They will need to be working on the necessary corrections and have a plan with dates for the completion of the mountain will be shut down. During one Storm Data case in August 1975, 90 people were injured when lightning struck near the center of a campground at Leslie, Michigan. In June 1979, 45 National Guard soldiers suffered minor injuries when lightning struck their camp near Grayling, Michigan. A US map of injuries was shown for 1968 to 1976 by Mogil et al.
