Betsy Sylvester’s friendly candor and sense of humor make her an easy person to talk with. Born in the Adirondacks at Saranac Lake, New York, she has lived in Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom since her early 20s. Although she might not see herself as one who lives “on the edge,” she’s a late-bloomer who started roller blading and downhill skiing in her late 40s. Now 52, she has taken up the sport of curling and says she really enjoys sweeping the stone. More to the point, Sylvester enjoys helping people help themselves and has found her calling as a teacher of adults. In 1999, she went to work for the NEKCA’s Micro Business Development Program and in 2000, began coordinating the Women’s Rural Entrepreneurial Network (WREN) luncheons in the St. Johnsbury area.
