Sex Offender Treatment Provider Parameters - Utah Department of Corrections
Within the three years immediately preceding application, the individual must have received at least 40 hours of formal training through documented conferences, symposia, seminars or course work directly related to the evaluation and treatment of sex offenders. Said training may include behavioral/cognitive therapy methods, reconditioning and relapse prevention, use of plethysmograph examinations, use of polygraph examinations, group therapy, sexual dysfunction, victimology, couples and family therapy, risk assessment, sexual addiction, sexual deviancy and ethics and professional standards; 30 of these 40 hours must be sex offender treatment specific; ... Sex Offender Treatment Provider Ethics - Utah Department of Corrections
Service providers are expected to comply with the ethical standards of their discipline. Service providers will not have been convicted of a felony or any sexually deviant behavior. Exceptions may be considered on a case-by-case basis. Service providers must have demonstrated competence in providing sex offender treatment. Providers must hold all those they supervise to established standards. Service provided will be what is considered best practice in the field. Providers will actively involve corrections and victim services in the treatment process. Community Protection will be the guiding principle of treatment of the sex offender. Typically a hearing is conducted by one Board Member or a hearing officer. The person conducting the hearing will state the nature of the hearing and review the conviction and sentence. Testifying victims will be asked to come forward at a specific time during the proceedings. Testimony may be given when the offender is present or, if the victim requests, the offender will be removed from the room. If the offender is asked to leave the hearing room while the victim is giving testimony, the testimony will be recorded and the offender will be returned to the room after the testimony and allowed to listen to a tape recording of the victim's testimony. Sex Offenders Treatment Training - Utah Department of Corrections
The Utah Department of Corrections Sex Offender Task Force is committed to ensuring that sex offender supervision and treatment is the best it can possibly be. As part of that commitment, the task force sponsors quarterly trainings. These quarterly trainings address issues which are relevant to agents and therapists who work with sex offenders. They cover technical treatment and supervision topics.
