Did you know … according to the National Center for Education Statistics, Utah continues to fall in the mid-range of the states? In 2001 our average rank on 20 items was 25.25 (out of 50 states and the District of Columbia). We fell in the top third on five items, in the middle third on ten, and in the bottom third on five. Our best scores were Circulation per Capita, where we ranked 4th, Audio Materials per Capita, where we ranked 6th, and Reference Transactions per Capita, where we ranked 7th. Low scores included Librarians with ALA-MLS per Capita (39), ILL Received per Capita ( 41) and Other Operating Income per Capita (43). Her first professional position, as Clinical Librarian for the Children's Hospital of Wisconsin's Clinical Library in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, gave her the opportunity to learn the "ins and outs" of hospital librarianship. Whitney has worked in marketing, as a web designer, in a medical library, as a librarian in a small community in western Kansas, and as the Assistant Director of the Cass County Public Library, an eight-branch system south of Kansas City, MO. ... She also has a BA in Political Science and a minor in Spanish from the University of Wyoming, and in another life was a Licensed Practical Nurse. ... Mary's library experience covers a broad range. For two and a half years she was the librarian of the English Language Library of Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela, where she received hands-on experience in all phases of library management, including fund-raising, cataloging, reference, and pest control (evicting a large iguana from the reference stacks). She then shifted to a more sedate, but no less interesting, professional experience first as the circulation manager at Coe Library. After receiving her MLS she became the Assistant Librarian for the University of Wyoming Libraries, where she served as the Coordinator of Health Science information and Fee-Based Services from 1998-2003.
