One such region is the Central Valley, morespecifically the San Joaquin portion of it. This area is composed ofeight counties: Fresno, Kern, Kings, Madera, Merced, San Joaquin,Stanislaus, and Tulare. This is a region that holds a population of 3million or 10 percent of California's population. This region seemssmall by California standards. The purpose of this exercise, however,is to show that the Central Valley ranks right up there with manystates in terms of population, employment, and other socio-economicvariables. Over 200 Census variables were examined, but only the oneswith the most interesting patterns are presented. General Information
With the integration in 1995 of the Olin E. TeagueVeterans’ Center, the Waco VA Medical Center, the Thomas T. Connally VAMedical Center, and four outpatient clinics, these entities together became theCentral Texas Veterans Health Care System (CTVHCS). CTVHCS is one of the largest integrated healthcare systems in theDepartment of Veterans Affairs, and contains one of the newest VA hospitals, oneof the largest inpatient psychiatric facilities, and one of the few BlindRehabilitation Centers in the country.  InFY2001, CTVHCS operated 1063 beds and saw nearly 620,000 outpatient visits. CTVHCS is primarily affiliated with the Texas A&M University, Collegeof Medicine, however a second affiliation was recently acquired with theUniversity of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, making CTVHCS one of the fewVA’s in the country with more than one affiliation with a major medicalschool. ...
