Today’s passage was a necessary step in the often bumpy road to improving America’s homeland security allocation system. In December of 2004, the Department of Homeland Security allocated $12 million to Dallas in December 2004, but sent nothing to Tarrant County and Fort Worth. Tarrant County, home to Lockheed Martin, a military base, and just south of the Texas Motor Speedway is considered a major metropolitan area. FutureTruck judging began June 11, 2002 at the Ford Motor Company Proving Ground in Yucca, Arizona and concluded at the California Motor Speedway in Fontana, California on June 21, 2002. Teams competed in twelve rigorous events that measured all aspects of the vehicles, including safety, performance, consumer acceptability, and design evaluation. The FutureTruck awards ceremony was held at the Regent Beverly Wilshire hotel at the conclusion of the competition. ... Resident big-name customers at Alliance include Galaxy Aerospace, U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency, a Federal Express hub, and special American Airlines operations, with services to fixed and rotary-wing flight training making up nearly 70 percent of operations. FHWA wanted to view the complex interactions between the motor vehicle and the roadside structure, ideally at various speeds, and to determine the resulting motions of the vehicle and the deformations of the vehicle's occupant compartment during a collision. FHWA also wanted to better understand and determine the attendant energy-absorption mechanisms that came into play during the collision, both those associated with the motor vehicle and those associated with the impacted structure.
