Tennessee State Library and Archives - Donations
By the middle of the twentieth century, it became obvious that the State Library had outgrown its space in the Capitol and that a new building was in order. When the new building, constructed as a memorial to the men and women of Tennessee who served in World War II, opened in 1953, it was clearly state-of-the-art, and a stately and handsome structure as well. The floor of its central lobby, Memorial Hall, features the Great Seal of the State in marble, and Tennessee marble is evident in other areas as well. With three floors on the front and eight stack levels behind, the current building is home to a collection of over 1.5 million items and 36,790 linear feet of state records and manuscript collections, as well as the best preservation laboratory in the state. Just recently, it has been nominated to the National Register of Historic Places. ... [Read More]
