Evaluation of Checkpoint Tennessee: Tennessee's Statewide Sobriety Checkpoint Program
This program was a joint effort of the Tennessee Department of Transportation,Governor's Highway Safety Office (GHSO) and the Tennessee Department of Safety,Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP). The GHSO initiated the program through thedevelopment and planning stages while the Tennessee Highway Patrol took the leadin the implementation of checkpoint activities. Central planning for the enforcementactivities was coordinated by the Planning and Research Section of the THP. Astatewide plan and schedule for the implementation of the checkpoints for the fullyear was developed and distributed through the chain of command to a lieutenant ineach of the Patrol's eight districts who was responsible for the implementation of theschedule. (A portion of the schedule appears in Appendix A as an example.)
