Children as young as 9 years old have been observed making wagers and acting as runners for bettors at cockfighting clubs. During the raid in Sutter County, two young children were abandoned at the side of the arena by the adults who had brought them to the cockfights. Then, I had the misfortune of encountering a psychiatrist upon relocating to Lakeland, Florida, who ignored my successful treatment history for the past eight years and decided that I was not suffering from manic-depressive illness after all. He discontinued my medication entirely, and I soon spiraled into a serious manic episode that led to my encounter with the criminal justice system from the other sideas a jail inmate.
