Volunteer Opportunities - SCORE
The success of a community-based restoration project depends on community involvement and the participation of individual volunteers. For the SCORE program, partnering with volunteers enables the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) to place more recycled oyster shell back in to the estuary than they could alone. Having the community involved in outreach will raise awareness of the importance of oyster habitat and of recycling oyster shell. When the public is well informed and personally invested in a resource, they are better stewards. Individual volunteers can also gain on a personal level as well, including gaining new skills and meeting other community members.
