RIHP&HC: Old State House
The Old State House figured prominently in some of the events of the Dorr Rebellion of 1841-1842, an important reform movement to make Rhode Island's government more democratic. At the time, the Charter of 1663, then the basis for state government, restricted voting rights to give nearly all political power to native-born property owners, and allocated representation in a manner that allowed rural areas to dominate the Assembly, undermining the voice of urban areas in state affairs. In 1841 the People's Party failed to establish its slate of officers as the legitimate government of Rhode Island, partly because they were prevented from occupying the Old State House. However, the crisis did force those in power to frame a new constitution, which was ratified in November 1842. At 65% of all new sites, the measured wind power waswithin one power class of the estimated power, and at 30% of these therewas no difference in the power class. The measured wind power at 35% of allnew sites differed by 2 or more classes from the estimated power; approximatelyhalf of these were greater and half less than the estimated power class.For special new sites (those sites installed specifically for wind energypurposes), 26% of the sites had the same class as the estimated power and57% of the sites were within ± 1 power class. I'll get to a lot of the handouts a bit later on. We have a presentation that talks about the Learning Disabilities Project. I like to tell a story. June and I were talking about golf earlier. America is aging now. People are getting older. There are more disabilities. Every year there are more and more folks with disabilities. There is guy, Jack, who is a golfer. He comes home to his wife. He is 75 years old, but he is still a good golfer. He comes home to his wife one day and says, honey I'm still hitting the ball really well, but I'm having a hard time seeing the ball. My vision is deteriorating. I have a hard time seeing where it lands. So Jack's wife says, why don't you take my brother Edgar. He still has very good eyesight. Jack say, yes, but he's 86 years old, hon.
