Recently, the students in Ms. Ivy Levinson's fifth grade class at the Berea Elementary School in Montgomery, New York sent EPA e-mail asking questions about the environment. It seemed that this interest in the environment from these curious and, judging from the quality of their questions, informed students deserved more than a series of e-mail replies and suggestions of Web sites to "go to" for more information. On a recent morning, the region's Environmental Education Coordinator traveled to the school and met with all the fifth graders and their teachers in a lively question and answer session. Some of the student's notes sent after the visit summed up the experience: "I learned a lot the day you came." "I'm glad we wrote those [e-mails] not just for getting answers, but for getting them in person."
