Children's Health Month
On October 6, Region VIII, in cooperation with the Denver Health Hospital, Rocky Mountain Poison and Drug Center, National Jewish Medical and Research Center, the U.S. Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry, and the University of Colorado at Denver Hispanic Student Services sponsored a Community Children’s Health Fair aimed at protecting Colorado children from environmental health hazards. The Region VIII Children’s Environmental Health Program launched a new Web site, http://www.epa.gov/region8/humanhealth/children/ , to provide environmental health news and tips. On October 21 and 22, Region VIII educated fifth-graders in East Aurora, Colorado about mercury poisoning and other environmental health hazards. The Region VIII Children’s Environmental Health Ambassador Program has been working with the Boulder Valley School District to provide information on environmental health hazards. El Consejo de Planificación Local de Cuidado y Desarrollo Infantil (Local Child Care and Development Planning Council) del Condado Kern en la actualidad tiene contratos con la División de Recursos de Informáticos y Servicios Tecnológicos de la Oficina para utilizar el sistema de información geográfica con el propósito de examinar la relación entre las familias en el programa de asistencia social a trabajo (CalWORKS) del estado de California y la disponibilidad de servicios de cuidados del niño, mediante el análisis espacial de la oferta y la demanda. El sistema de información geográfica muestra las concentraciones de niños en el programa CalWORKS, desde recién nacidos hasta 5 años de edad, en las 11 ciudades del condado Kern.
