The Real Estate Agency was established in 1919. The agency is administered by the Real Estate Commissioner who is appointed by the governor. The agency is responsible for the licensing, education and enforcement of Oregon's real estate laws applicable to brokers, property managers, real estate marketing organizations; licensing and regulation of escrow agents (ORS chapter 696); and subdivision (ORS chapter 92), condominium (ORS chapter 100), timeshare and campground (ORS chapter 94) registration/public report issuance. Each biennium the Agency examines, licenses and processes renewals for over 23,000 licensees and registrants and monitors regulated activities in over 4600 escrow organizations and real estate offices. Use the exam content and topic breakdown provided in the "Descriptions of the Examinations" provided above as the basis of your study. Exam descriptions are also included as Appendix 5 in the Agency's Real Estate License and Examination Information booklet. You may request a booklet by calling (503) 378-4170, select 0. Study course materials that cover all the topics in the content outlines provided in the "Description of the Examinations". Additional textbooks and materials on real estate are available from libraries, private real estate schools, community college and university bookstores, and directly from publishing companies. The Agency publishes Questions and Answers in Real Estate , and the Oregon Real Estate Manual , which can be purchased by returning the Publications Order Form with the appropriate fee. John Rumpakis is a recipient of the Ellis Island Medal of Honor for exemplifying the ideal of living a life dedicated to the American way while preserving the values of a particular heritage group. At age 16, he began a merchandising career with Sears and upon graduation from college became an executive with Meier and Frank Co. In 1959, he began his own business career as a real estate broker and developer, including serving as president of Rho Epsilon Kappa, a real estate honorary. His public service includes serving on the Oregon Department of Revenue’s Board for Property Tax Appeals, the Multnomah County Board of Equalization, the Portland Citizen’s Budget Review Committee, and the Multnomah County Solid Waste Board.
