Oregon State University - Community Outreach and Education Program (COEP) Both NIEHS Centers at Oregon State University, the Marine & Freshwater Biomedical Sciences Center and the Environmental Health Sciences Center, have a longstanding partnership with the OSU Science & Math Investigative Learning Experiences (SMILE) Program, an outreach program to twelve mostly rural, Oregon school districts, to provide science and math enrichment for educationally disadvantaged students in grades 4-12. The SMILE Program has received funding from the National Institute of Environmental Health Science in collaboration with Oregon Health and Science University, Center for Research on Occupational and Environmental Toxicology, to initiate an environmental justice program in Oregon entitled Genes & Environment: New Education to Involve Communities (GENETIC). Oregon Department of Agriculture State Board of Agriculture The mission of the State Board of Agriculture is to foster close contact between the Oregon Department of Agriculture, producer, consumer interests and the practical agricultural problems of the state. The 10-member State Board of Agriculture advises the Oregon Department of Agriculture on policy issues and development of rules. Oregon´s Governor appoints nine of the board members; the chair of Oregon Soil and Water Conservation Commission serves as the tenth member. Board members serve four-year terms and a maximum of two terms. State law requires seven of the appointed board members to be farmers or ranchers who represent different segments of agriculture; two board members must represent consumers.
