Oklahoma State Senate Artwork Artist - Mike Wimmer
Mike Wimmer grew up in Muskogee, Oklahoma, a town immortalized by Merle Haggard, where one had to learn to use his imagination to find fun. "The one thing I wanted to be more than an illustrator," he says, "was a middle linebacker for the Chicago Bears. As a high school football star, I was honored with many team awards and made the all-state football team. I thought I had it made, but while playing in the all-state game I learned what really big was (I was 205 pounds of raw muscle). I could not see over those guys when they were bent over. One, Paul Parker, weighted in at 302. So I turned my attention to art studies and body-building." ... [Read More]

With Oklahoma's centennial approaching in 2007, May has been busy with "OK Reads OK," a program encouraging Oklahomans to read about their heritage. This after a supplemental appropriations bill failed to get the votes necessary to make funds for OHCA and other state entities available immediately. However Senate President Pro Tem Stratton Taylor said OHCA confirmed the action would do nothing to address the current financial crisis because state law prevents the agency from overspending its budget regardless of a funding advance. ...
