Cedar Point - Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge Cedar Point National Wildlife Refuge is a unit of the Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge Complex. The refuge is 2,500 acres in size and is entirely marsh except for the dikes and a few acres of remnant beach covered with hardwoods. The refuge is located on the Lake Erie shoreline northeast of Oregon, Ohio, (near Toledo, Ohio). An open bay outside the dike system is known as Potter's Pond. The dike system separate the marsh from Lake Erie and divides the Cedar Point Refuge into three pools. All pools have cattail, bulrush and other emergent vegetation. Currently, the refuge consists of 2,445 acres of marsh, divided into three pools. The largest pool, almost 2,000 acres, is the largest contiguous marsh in Ohio's Lake Erie marshes. Most of the refuge is closed to the public, however, a fishing area is open from June - August. The marshes of this refuge are home to large numbers of waterfowl and wading birds.
