The Miami County Incinerator site posed a public health hazard in the pastbecause of exposure to chemicals through drinking water and surface soil.At one time, there were at least twelve private wells contaminated withsite-related chemicals. The concentration of chemicals in a couple of thewells were at levels which could pose a risk of noncancer health effectsfor sensitive members of the population. By 1992, public water had been suppliedthe majority of area residents, effectively eliminating the exposures fromthese 12 wells. It is not known how long exposures actually occurred. Inaddition, surface soils on-site contained elevated levels of lead. Peopleon-site, primarily on-site workers, could have been exposed to the lead inthe soil.
