New Mexico Power Ball
Wind Energy Resource Atlas of the United States Table D-3 gives the number of sites in the UnitedStates for which the difference in wind power class (measured minus estimated)was a given amount. At 65% of all new sites, the measured wind power waswithin one power class of the estimated power, and at 30% of these therewas no difference in the power class. The measured wind power at 35% of allnew sites differed by 2 or more classes from the estimated power; approximatelyhalf of these were greater and half less than the estimated power class. For special new sites (those sites installed specifically for wind energypurposes), 26% of the sites had the same class as the estimated power and57% of the sites were within ± 1 power class. Thus, 43% of the sites differedby 2 or more power classes from the estimated power class. ... [Read More]
Historic Shipwrecks in the Gulf of Mexico Irion, Jack B., and Ball, David A., " The New York and the Josephine : Two Steamships of the Charles Morgan Line ." The International Journal of Nautical Archaeology (2001) 30.1:48-56. ... The 19 th century saw many advances in ship building technology including steam power and iron hulls. Along the coastal waters of the Gulf of Mexico some of the first merchant steamships were introduced in the 1830s by Charles Morgan, a New York businessman. Of the 117 steamships owned by Morgan or his corporate enterprises between 1833 and 1885, the wrecks of four have been discovered in the Gulf of Mexico or contiguous waters. One of these, the ... Energy Services Bulletin Fact: Correcting power factor only affects the electrical system ahead or upstream of where the capacitors are added. The motor does not even know the power factor has been corrected; the power factor at the motor terminals is unchanged. ... That requires a higher capacity distribution system sized to handle all the energy traffic, not just that which flows in the desired direction. Power factor is the ratio of the net energy flowing to the load to the total energy traffic both to and from the same load. Reactive power is just the back and forth portion of the gross energy traffic. ... [Read More]
President Discusses Energy Policy, Economic Security So there's some smart things that this energy bill will encouragethe country to do, including solar power and hydrogen. I don't know ifyou remember I laid out I thought -- I know an interesting initiative:it said, why don't we explore how we use hydrogen power -- hydrogen topower our cars, to help us diversify away from dependency upon hydrocarbons. And I believe we can develop a hydrogen-power automobile overthe next decade or two. I think it will be cool if your young son isable to take a driver's test in a hydrogen-powered automobile that hasgot zero emissions, and at the same time will make us less dependent onhydrocarbons which we have to import from foreign countries. ... Energy Savers: Hydrogen Fuel Renewable energy sources can produce electricity for electrolysis. For example, Humboldt State University's Schatz Energy Research Center designed and built a stand-alone solar hydrogen system. The system uses a 9.2 kilowatt (KW) photovoltaic (PV) array to provide power to compressors that aerate fish tanks. The power not used to run the compressors runs a 7.2 kilowatt bipolar alkaline electrolyzer. The electrolyzer can produce 53 standard cubic feet of hydrogen per hour (25 liters per minute). The unit has been operating without supervision since 1993. When there is not enough power from the PV array, the hydrogen provides fuel for a 1.5 kilowatt proton exchange membrane fuel cell to provide power for the compressors. ... [Read More]
