New Jersey - Peer Institute 2002
The students from the nine colleges represented at the Peer Institute networked, exchanged ideas, and took examples of successful programs back to their campuses for implementation. Additionally, 40 students received the Bacchus and Gamma Certification. In 2001, nine new college programs were started because of the Peer Institute. This program assists the veteran in need of transportation. The program originated due to the distance many N.J. veterans had to travel to getto a VA facility for medical care. Free transportation is offered to VA medical centers, clinics, pharmacies, private physicians, regional veterans services offices or job service offices, and other community services in most counties. The state veterans service officer in the county should be contacted to explain the details of the program, level of service in that county, qualifications and requirements, and assist in scheduling the transportation. For FY 2005 a total of $1,100,000 was appropriated for this grant program. Currently there are eight centers located throughout the state providing direct assistance to auditorily impaired, visually impaired, and learning disabled students. The goal of the centers is to provide integrated, individualized, direct services to students and technical assistance to other colleges and universities in the state. ...
